New Years Resolutions

Hey Guys!

So as 2014 is nearly at an end I think now would be a good time to share some of the things I hope to achieve in 2015.

1. Be Healthier - This includes exercising and eating healthier, particularly more food and veg. I'll also be starting a new series on my blog called 'Fitness Friday' in order to help with this in the New Year.

2. Worry Less - this might be a tricky one as I do worry about every tiny thing, a lot of which I'm not able to control anyway. Next Year I'd like to be able to stress less and just relax more.

3. Blog More - I wasn't exactly brilliant at Blogmas with all the preparations for Christmas but next year I would like to get more involved on the blog, document more of my lifestyle, more fashion and beauty posts and definitely some more reviews too. There may even be the odd competition too as a thank you to all you lovely readers so look out for that!

4. Travel More - I love travelling, whether that be in the UK or abroad. I love experiencing new places and trying new things as I think it helps you to get the most out of life. Although it can be costly I'd love to be able to travel a bit more in 2015.

So they are my resolutions, have you made any yourself? Let me know in the comments what you're looking forward to or hoping to achieve in 2015.

Merry Christmas

Hey Guys!

Just a quick Christmas message to say I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a wonderful New Year! I'm sorry that I haven't been to active in Blogmas this year but I have been so busy with all the Christmas preparations that I just haven't had the time to write good posts! Next Year I will try and be more organised if I can be!

Merry Christmas!

#BigBlogmasProject A Christmas DIY

Hey Guys!

So I realise that I've been lacking with then Blogmas project recently, one of the reasons for this is at school has been really busy and I've not been feeling to great. I will try and get back into it as much as possible though!

Today I wanted to share with you one of the things I've been getting involved with in school. I recently joined a Young Enterprise group where you have to make and sell a product to try and make as much profit as possible, I really liked the idea of this as I am doing business at A-Level.

The product that we came up with was scented candles. With it being close to Christmas we decided to do Christmas scents of Christmas Pine and Frankincense and Myrh. In the New Year we will be looking into other scents!

We make the product in our school laboratory and sell them to friends and family as well as at trade fairs. We're currently selling the smaller candles pictured above for £3 and lager ones for £4. You can find out more information on our Young Enterprise company on the Essence Made Facebook page!

Let me know what scents you would like to see Essence Made produce

#BigBlogmasProject 3 books I want to read!

Hey Guys!

So I'm sorry that yesterday's post didn't go up, it was due for a variety of reasons, I didn't feel it was good enough, I wasn't happy with it and I also had a lot of other stuff going on which I personally saw as more important. I am however back today with a little post with 3 books I want to read!

This is a book that I have seen around a lot and also heard a lot about, I've never read a book by Karen Joy Fowler so it may be going on my Christmas list!

The next book is one I saw in WH Smiths and had a little brief read of the first couple pages. It was very mysterious and appealed to me a lot as it is the sort of book I would usually read.

This book is one that appears interesting simply by the title. I love books with a curious and interesting title and it really made me want to read more about it, they don't give too much away with this one though!

Have you read any of these books? What books do you want to read?

#BigBlogmasProject2014 Looking like Christmas

Hey Guys!

So this post is just a general Christmassy post. I've started to get really excited about Christmas this week. People are playing Christmas songs at school that everyone sings along to, shops are playing Christmas music, some staff are dressed up in Christmas outfits/jumpers and there's lots and lots of decorations popping up all around.

I wasn't able to go to the Christmas light switch on in my town but I have been to have a look at them now and it really puts you in a good mood. Everyone generally seems so much happier at Christmas and it's a really festive and happy time.

This photo isn't great as it was taken on my phone in the car but you get the general idea, I love the city at this time of year and tomorrow is the start of our Christmas Market which I am really looking forward too!

Let me know what you love most about this time of year in the comments!

#BigBlogmasProject2014 Gift Guide For Her!

Hey Guys!

Sorry this ones a little bit later tonight but here is a little 'gift guide for her'. This could be for anyone from your mum, girlfriend, friend, family member etc. I hope that there is something for everyone in this guide and that you find it useful!

The 'Sugarglam Fairies' is a lovely gift set from benefit cosmetics, it contains the they're real mascara, the POREfessional, hoola and benetint. This is available here for £44.50 which would make it a little bit more on the expensive spectrum. However, I am a huge lover of benefit cosmetics and they're website states that it is of the value of £75.35
A further item that I would recommend is the 'Winter Wonderland Music Box' by The Body Shop. This is a lovely festive present and the packaging is so cute! It also features a lot of my favourite products from The Body Shop. It is available on their website here for £35.00

I love the mugs on the Emma Bridgewater website and they are a fairly reasonable price. I think they would make an excellent Christmas gift for mum and perhaps even to go on your own Christmas wish list. A lot of the mugs are very festive so would be perfect for Christmas, you can shop the full range on the website here

This lovely hot water bottle cover is part of the Monsoon for Oxfam partnership. They're a lovely design and would be perfect for the winter months, at £9.99 they would make a lovely gift for a friend or secret santa present.

Finally you are probably aware that around this time LUSH have some lovely Christmas products, my personal favourite being the 'Snow Fairy' range. It is a gorgeous product in lovely packaging and is available on the LUSH website for £22.50.

I hope you have enjoyed this gift guide, let me know what your favourite product is, have you already done your Christmas shopping?

#BigBlogmasProject2014 Winter Nail Polishes

Hey Guys!

So as part of the #BigBlogmasProject I will be trying to blog everyday this month! I will do my very best to keep to this and hope that you enjoy my posts!

Today I thought I'd share with you one of my favourite winter nail polishes, it's such a lovely shade for winter and is a little bit different.

The shade is the Ciate 'Angel Wings' and I also used the base coat and top coat from Barry M which I found worked really well with this. I love the packaging of the Ciate nail polish and think that it is very cute and a little bit more Christmassy.

Have you tried any of the Ciate nail polishes? What are your favourite shades this winter?

I'm also loving all the winter fashion and makeup looks at the moment too! It's a great atmosphere all round!

Today I went Christmas shopping with my family and this is my OOTD

Blogger Chats

Hey Guys!

So I realise that I've been away from blogging for a while, I had a little break but taking part in the bbloggers chat on twitter tonight, I realised that I couldn't abandon blogging forever.
One of the reviews I've been lacking with the blog recently is due to A-Levels, we get a lot of homework and recently it's been piling up and taking over a lot of my time. I've also recently started my own event planning business and am working on making that a success with planning my first event, so it's been quite busy!

When I first started blogging, blog chats are something that I found really helpful and I have come across so many lovely blogs through them which I read regularly.

They're great for networking with other bloggers and talking about things you're passionate about.

Have you ever taken part in a blog chat? Do you find them helpful?

Recycling old clothes OOTD

Hey Guys!

So I don't really wear skirts anymore so I decided to dig out some of my old clothes from the back of my wardrobe and see what outfit I could throw together!

My friend got me this necklace for my birthday and I really like it with this outfit! The top is from Primark and the skirt is from a local boutique.

Obviously it is getting a little bit colder now and so I will be wearing this top with my black cardigan when I go out later today.

This skirt only cost about £4 and it has actually lasted really well, I bought it about a year ago from a small local boutique but unfortunately the shop has since closed down which is such a shame.

Sorry I had to take these pictures with my phone so they aren't great quality, I seem to have misplaced my camera somewhere but hopefully it will turn up soon.

Lifestyle: Birthday Meal!

I am very thankful to have such a lovely and supportive group of friends. They have helped me through so much and I honestly don't know where I'd be without them.

It's my birthday on Monday so I decided to get the gang together do a bit of shopping and then go for a meal at The Harvester.

I had such a great time and I honestly don't remember the last time I have laughed so much, it was definitely what I needed and made my birthday even more special.

Now it's getting colder I was also able to wear this snug little jumper that I got a while back from Zara, it's so comfy!

My Scoliosis Story

Hey Guys!

So today I thought I'd do a slightly different post on something that I haven't talked about on my blog before, it might not be to everyone's taste and I appreciate that but if it raises a tiny bit more awareness of Scoliosis then that can never be a bad thing.

When I was 12 I was diagnosed with a condition called Scoliosis, a curvature of the spine.
In my case I suffered a lot of pain and was awake most nights screaming in pain sometimes to the point where I'd have to go to hospital, I'd try to carry on as normally as possible by going to school and meeting up with friends but I became so drained with the codeine and diazepam I was taking for the pain it was clear that something had to be done.

At first I tried a back brace which although it wouldn't reduce the curve it would hopefully hold it in place, unfortunately, it didn't work, it made the pain worse and left red marks all over my back, I didn't find it beneficial and ended up quickly throwing it away.

After my parents looked on the internet we found that Sheffield Children's Hospital did a brace known as the Spinecor brace. This was a more modern version of the Boston Brace and we decided to go to Sheffield to see if it could help.

At Sheffield we found out that it was too late for the brace to be effective, I had an aggressive curve and although they could monitor it I would need surgery one day.

I had the surgery on August 4th 2010. In the build up to the surgery I didn't tell anyone how nervous I really was, I saw it as something I just had to get on and deal with. I wish now that I had talked more as it would have probably helped take some of the anxiety away.
The day after the surgery I suffered very rare complications which were described as one in a million. My lung collapsed, my blood pressure dropped, I caught Pneumonia and lost all movement and feeling in my arms and legs. My parents were told that if I survived I would never walk again.

It was a slow process but eventually I went on to make an almost full recovery, I learnt to walk again and I got my feeling back, I still have weak lungs and I have accepted that I always will but this is only a small consequence compared to what could have been.

Scoliosis can also make you very self conscious, it can cause your hips and shoulders to be uneven and your shoulder blade to stick out.
I personally missed a lot of school in year 8 due to my operation and have always struggled to fit back in to routine. I'm in Year 12 now and even now I suffer with anxiety, however, I don't think this is entirely due to my scoliosis.

I wanted to help other children going through a similar experience which is when I set up Scolio. Scolio sends gifts and grants wishes to children in the UK with serious conditions and illnesses, more information on this can be found at my Facebook page Help Jess help others or by adding Scolio Fundraise on Facebook.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I hope that you now knkw a little bit more about Scoliosis. I'm sorry that this post is quite different to what I'd usually talk about but it is something that has hugely affected my life and shaped me as a person.

Sick Day Essentials

Hey Guys!

So one thing I've noticed recently is that I'm really busy and seem to have been posting less. I've just started sixth form and had a lot going on with that and I've also been poorly.

I'm feeling slightly better today so I thought it would be a good time to do a little blog post on sick day essentials!

1. A cosy jumper

This is probably one of the most comfy jumpers that I have, I bought it a while ago from Primark and love to wear it when I'm not feeling great and just spending the day at home.

2. Throaties/Soothers

With feeling sick I've also had a saw throat and have found these to be really helpful, I'm sure anything similar would also help too but definitely something I'd pick up again.

3. Some magazines

Now my mum kindly picked these up for me as I didn't want to do school work because I didn't think I'd be able to do it very well. I do think everyone needs a couple good magazines or a good film when they're sick.

4. Comfort food!

These are a particular favourite of mine. I haven't really felt like eating anything these past few days so any food is good food at the moment. I haven't been eating particularly healthy but when you're not feeling like eating it's best to eat what you can, when you can.

Sorry for not posting so much recently, I love blogging and really want to keep it up so am trying to figure out some kind of routine!

OOTD with Wish Strings

Hey guys!

So sorry I haven't posted in a while I've had a lot on with school so it's been slightly hectic this week!

I recently received some stunning jewellery from a company called Wish Strings and have decided to show you with an ootd post.

Top - New Look
Jeans - Primark
Cardigan - New Look
Bracelets - Wish Strings
Ring - Wish Strings

I love that the rings are custom made to you and the design was lovely. The bracelet was very sweet with cute butterfly charms and the great thing is that they go with pretty much anything, I have been wearing them to school this week.

Wish Strings are a brilliant small business and I love the idea of their wish string bracelets.

The packaging of all their jewellery is lovely but I especially loved this cute saying on the wish string bracelet.

Have you bought anything from wish strings before? Pop over to their Facebook page and let me know in the comments what your favourite pieces are! :)

Back to school essentials

Hey Guys!

So some of you may have already gone back to school/college/uni so I may be a little late with this post. However I start year 12 on Monday so thought this would be a good time for a little post!

A few days ago I went shopping for back to school things, I didn't actually need any pens or pencils as I have quite a big collection now but If you are looking for new pens I'd definitely recommend paper mate ones, they seem to last me ages.

1. Kenneth Cole Reaction Bag

My old school bag from new look was starting to look a bit worn out so I thought I would treat myself to a nice new one! I love the bags in TK Maxx which is where I got this one from and it only cost me £25!

2. Paperchase pink folder

Okay so pink is probably not everyone's first choice in colour when looking for a free but I find so many folders are a bit too plain and boring for me which is why I really like this Paperchase one which I picked up for £2.50

3. Carnival stripe pencil case

A new pencil case always puts me in a better mood, my old one had got a lot of scribbles over it from last year so I thought it would be a good idea to start the year fresh with this WH Smith carnival stripe one for £4.99

4. Stabilo highlighters

In all honesty I probably didn't need 4 highlighters and I'm sure just 2 would of done me fine. However you can never have too many highlighters and they were only a couple pounds from Wilkinsons.

5. 2014/15 diary

And finally I picked up a diary for the new school year, I also got hsh from Wilko's but I can't actually remember how much if was!

Let me know if you're ready for going back to school! :)

August Favourites!

Hey Guys!

So I am slightly late doing this August Favourites post as we are now in September! I'm looking forward to the winter months and snuggling up in comfy jumpers with a hot chocolate sounds very ideal to me! Here are some things that I've been using/loving during August.

1. Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

I've been looking for a good foundation for ages and this one definitely ticks all the right boxes. It goes on really well with a pump and doesn't make you feel cakey like a lot of foundations do. It is on the more expensive side but for me it is the best foundation that I've tried and I use it daily.

2. Maybelline Matte Maker

This is great if you want your makeup to look slightly more definied. I tend to use this when I'm going out and want my makeup to look a bit more prominent. I really like this powder as it doesn't change the colour of your makeup and it isn't that expensive.

3. Collection colour lash mascara

I picked this up just by chance as I was looking for a thin mascara that wouldn't leave those little dots on my glasses and this looked suitable. I don't really like having big out-there lashes so for me this was perfect as it only had minimal effect, I'd say this was great for a more natural look.

4. New look playsuit

Okay I didn't want this post to be all beauty related so I've added in a couple of fashion favourites too. I love this sweet little playsuit from New Look as the tropical colours give it a holiday look so it was great for holiday and summery days.

5. Jane Norman Ring

And finally I would have to include this Jane Norman ring, I've been wearing it on a daily basis throughout August and absolutely love it. As you may know I am a huge ring addict and love wearing fashion rings. I picked up this one in the sale at Jane Norman for about £3.

Hope you enjoyed the post, let me know what some of your favourites have been this month!

The Sun Mousse Review

Hey Guys!

So as I've already mentioned I recently went to Cornwall for a couple days and luckily the weather was really nice so we was able to spend a day at the beach.

I was sent a bottle of The Sun Mousse to review and thought that as I needed sun protection this would be an ideal time.

I usually hate sun creams as I find them sticky and I don't like the smell of them but I found that the sun mousse was really smooth and dried into the skin really well. There was also hardly any smell so that was really appealing to me.

"The sun mouse is rapidly absorbed into the skin's outer layer, where advanced, high performance sun filters work to provide immediate and long lasting broad spectrum protection from both UVA AND UVB rays"

It is obviously really important to be protected from the sun and being someone that does burn really easily I was anxious to see if this would help at all. Luckily I didn't get sunburnt whilst I was at the beach!

The bottle I reviewed was the SPF 20, medium 6 hour protection. It says on the bottle that it is very water resistant which I completely agree with as it didn't come off when I went in the sea.

Another thing I love about this is the bottle itself as I usually find the bottles to be a bit plain and boring but this one has a really good beach theme to it.

It is quite expensive compared to sun creams that you can find on offer in supermarkets but I would definitely recommend as I haven't managed to find another protection that isn't oily. This sun mousse is priced at £19.99 for a 150ml aerosol.

You can find more information at www.thesunmousse.co.uk

Exploring Devon and Cornwall!

Hey Guys!

It's no secret that I absolutely love travelling and seeing new places. It's really good to have a few days away now
and then to have a change of routine.

I spent a few days stopping in Plymouth which isn't somewhere I had been before. I love Plymouth as there is something for everyone and you're never lost for something to do. We went to the top of the lighthouse which was a great experience but I was to busy trying not to fall down the stairs to get some good photos!

We stopped at the New Continental which was a great hotel and it made a change for the beds to be comfy! However, on the last night we did find out it was haunted which put us all a bit on edge. Look at them creepy corridors!

We also went to Looe which was lovely! I loved all the little houses which were on the hill and it was a warm day so we all had a great time on the beach.

I think this seagull wanted some of our Ice Cream!

Overall it was a lovely break away! I'd definitely love to go back soon!
